Here’s What’s Happening Around the Neighborhood this Month
Call for Adventure Guides!
From John Payne…
I have been in contact with the director of the YMCA Camp Greenville about bringing their Adventure Guides program to the SRC. This is a program designed to foster bonding experiences with dads and their sons/daughters. Fathers in the SRC with children between 5-8 years of age are encouraged to participate. The director and several staffers from Camp Greenville will come to the SRC once a month or every other month, usually on a Sunday afternoon, and we will engage in different activities with our children. Some examples of these activities include archery shooting, pinewood derby car racing, daddy-daughter dance, cake and chili-cookoff. In addition to this, there will be two weekends each year (one in the spring and one in the fall) where we can go to Camp Greenville with our kids and participate in all that the camp has to offer. This is a really great experience and will bring our families together through really unique experiences.
We are tentatively set up to have our first program on Sunday March 4th from 2:30 to 4:30 pm. We will probably plan to meet down near the Chickawa Outdoor Center. Depending on the number of dads/children, we will plan to have archery shooting, hatchet throwing, fire building, and homesteading lessons such as candle and broom making, and spinning wool. The cost for each child is $6. And, as we will be outside for many of these activities, please dress accordingly. The camp director also asked that no open-toed shoes be worn since we will be shooting arrows.
Please RSVP to John Payne atjpayne@palmettoretina.com by February 15th if you are interested in participating. For more information, here is the website for the Adventure Guides program through the YMCA. https://www.ymcagreenville.org/more-programs/adventure-guides. If you have any questions, just let me know. Thanks and look forward to hearing from you.
