Shag Night on March 21 to Benefit Music Department at Midway Elementary
On Friday, March 21, the Junior Women’s Club of Lake Murray‘s Arts Department is planning a Shag Night at the Chickawa Center in Saluda River Club to benefit the Midway Elementary School’s Music Department. 100% of the $10 admission per person will go to supporting the school’s music education. Tickets may be purchased online.
From 7:30 – 10PM, a great time will be had by all who love to dance the Carolina Shag (a descendant of the Carolina Jitterbug – according to Bo Bryan, a Carolina Shag historian). Come ready to show off your fancy steps, including the Round House, the Boogie Walk, and the Roll Out, and enjoy tasty refreshments!
The Junior Women’s Club of Lake Murray
JWC of Lake Murray is a non-profit organization started in 2011 as an effort to involve local young women in the betterment of the Lake Murray area community. The membership is composed of women from throughout the Irmo, Lexington and Columbia area who are committed to both volunteer service and philanthropy. Members participate in volunteer activities with several local organizations as well as fundraising efforts to benefit local charities.
Members participate in chapter meetings and club socials throughout the year to socialize, plan for club events, and learn more about ways to get involved in our community.
JWC of Lake Murray’s chapter meetings are held on the first Monday of each month at The Saluda River Club in Lexington, SC, except during July, August or December. Visitors are welcome at the monthly meetings from 6:30-7:00PM or at the bi-annual membership socials. Please contact JWCLakeMurray@gmail.com to learn more about club membership. The parent organization on the state level is the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of South Carolina (GFWC-SC).
